2022 Local First Member Celebration - Happening Tomorrow!

Join Local First staff, business members, and fellow community localists for an evening of celebration, connection, and camaraderie on April 8th, 6pm-8pm, at the Powerhouse.

This year's Annual Member Celebration will feature live music sponsored by Ska Brewing, food prepared and provided by Sage Farm Fresh Eats, and guided conversations to continue our collective work in strengthening the local movement.

On March 30th, La Plata County representatives, City of Durango officials, local business owners, and concerned community members joined Local First for the virtual “Harnessing Opportunity in Durango: A Perspective on Development” webcast.

Throughout the comprehensive presentation, Minicozzi contextualizes the value of our multi-use downtown core and exemplifies the importance of harnessing circular growth for the health and resiliency of our residents. With examples of urban development successes and lessons from around the nation, the presentation flows like a 101 lesson plan – demystifying seemingly convoluted data into digestible steps forward.

City of Durango Design & Development Awards Ceremony April 14 | 5 PM

Join the City of Durango, nominees, and neighbors alike for the announcement of the winners of Durango Design & Development Award on April 14 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Powerhouse Science Center. Re-implemented this year, these awards originally started in 1983 to highlight positive aspects of design and development within the City of Durango.

County seeks public input on strategic plan update

La Plata County is revising its 5-year strategic plan. The Board of County Commissioners invites the public to participate in the process. County staff will hold three public meetings in April to hear from county residents as well as business owners and the non-profit community.

  • April 11 at 1 PM - County Administration Building board room, 1101 E. 2nd Ave.
  • April 12 at 6:30 PM - Breen Grange/Community Building, 15300 Highway 140
  • April 13 at 6:30 PM - Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave.
